Dead on arrival
April 17, 2018
Thousands of people have been killed in Duterte’s year-long drug war. Hundreds of those shot during police anti-drug operations were taken to hospital, only to be declared dead on arrival (DOA). Police say they’re trying to save lives. But family members and other witnesses say police are sending corpses to hospitals to cover up summary executions.
This is the story of one such case. On January 20, in a notoriously rough area of Manila called Delpan, three men were shot multiple times in what police said was an anti-drug sting operation.
