Here’s Who Actually Votes in American Elections

Democrats are counting on a so-called blue wave to sweep them into power in the House and Senate in Tuesday’s elections. But a historic headwind could make that more challenging: Some of the demographic groups with the highest levels of support for Democrats tend to turn out to vote in lower numbers in midterm elections.
Overall, the U.S. is rapidly becoming more diverse, with the country projected to become majority non-white by 2045. Still, the 2014 midterm electorate was nearly 76 percent white and about 17 years older than the median of the U.S. population.
